Byron Bay Surf Festival 2018
McTavish Trim
The McTavish Trim event was back again this year in some challenging, yet trimmable waves at Wategos. The Trim is an invitation only event with some of the best local and international surfers in the world, where the winner is the surfer who gets "Furthest Up The Beach" or catches the longest wave. This is measured with an accurate laser from where the surfer catches the wave, to where the surfer finishes their ride. This year's longest wave was 347m by Alex Knost, who was a standout all weekend. It was great to see a number of girls invited to the event, with Kassia Meador and Ivy Thomas making it into the final. Yew!

Finless Division Brianna Oconnell
Finless fun! The epic display of finless on Sunday kept the fun flowing, with a bunch of shredders sliding and gliding into a big pile of smiles. Local shred lord Bri was out there reminding us how fun surfing is.

Mermaid Division
The biggest non-competition event of the day was the Mermaid Division. With a stacked lineup of gurfers from all over, the fun (in the sun) had only just begun. Hitting the water for half an hour of power, colour, party waves and laughs. So good to see such a healthy number of gurfers out at our local!
