TEAM FRIDAY TUNES WITH MOLLY
This Friday, we share with you the dear little heart of Molly O’Neill, a girl whose name once mentioned never fails to be followed by, ‘oh man I love her so much’. Molly is an energy that we all need to harness in our day to day lives, she’s bright and enthusiastic and ever so vivacious. Molly is passionate about music and books and art, so this playlist, we know we can trust – yay for Molly!
Considering humans are approximately 70% water, and the moon affects the tides so drastically, do you believe it affects our state of minds?
You know what, I haven’t ever really thought about it in too much depth but yeah I guess I kind of do. I mean I have seen it in my body, and my friends’ bodies the impact of the moon on our menstrual cycle, so yeah I guess I do believe it must impact our state of mind to some degree. And some people are just bat shit crazy.
What do you want to say to people just learning to surf?
That it is the most addictive and selfish activity in the world. And the feeling of being surf stoned is just so nice! Bend your knees. Think graceful thoughts.
What is one thing you want to do to make the world a better place?
Reduce my carbon footprint, and encourage others to do the same – and share good music.
What does your fantasy holiday look and sound like?
Well my life is pretty much like a holiday, so I think my fantasy holiday would entail some major points of difference from the incredible daily grind of waves, coffee, friends, beer, music & food. But, in saying that, I don’t know what else I would want?!
I have been dreaming of Ireland lately… cold water, pubs, green landscapes… I’m not sure…
Tell us your favourite surf memory?
Hmm… not too sure – maybe surfing dreamy San Juanico in Baja or Immesounne in Morocco with my brother. Exceptionally spoilt when it comes to perfect right hand point breaks, growing up in Noosa and Byron…
Is there anything you’re afraid of right now?
Well the other night when I went to the toilet at Cass’s farmhouse I was awkwardly reminded of my weird phobia of green tree frogs…
What are you making at the moment?
The time to care & love for my friends and family
What is something you really care about but might not have enough time or information to do anything about it?
The big topics. Politics?
If the world was ending tomorrow, what would you do today?
Hang at my place with my nearest and dearest, listen to really good records, surf perfect waves, eat delicious food, drink heaps of beers, laugh, cry… Pretty much exactly what I did today.
How do you care for our oceans?
I guess sharing conservation knowledge and trying to lead by example. And always pick up rubbish.
What’s the nicest thing anyone has ever said to you?
Maria told me once that she thought I was a super human.
ATMOSEA TEAM AND THEIR PRE-SURF MARINADE.
Driving to the ocean is a very special activity, that nervous flutter in your stomach is tiny pockets of suspense, popping, with every inch nearer to the ocean you get. Mary told you it was on fire, Suzie said it was small but peeling like a ripe ol’ Cavendish, and Bobby just said “hurry! there’s only five hours left of daylight.” So, you choose a song, to accompany your highly-strung surf exhilaration, biting your nails and tapping those fingers feels like you’re hanging on a cliff waiting to choose the right time to let go. A song to the sea is very important, it will ease your lead foot and remind you of the voyage, and if it’s a surf that you’ll never forget, the music you played before and after will be the stimulant for those memories forever. Incredible, no?
Each Friday we will be introducing our galaxy field of surf stars and their top ten track choices to warrant an excitable journey to the surf, while learning a little bit more about their joyous lives and what makes them tick.
