Self Care week 3 Yoni Steaming
Another Self care practice that we love and are sharing with you this week is a little different to what we have shared in the past. We know this might not be for everyone, but here at Atmosea we are big believers in giving everything a go, and this is certainly a new practice we are happy to welcome into our self care routine.
If you haven't heard of it yet, let us introduce to you the ancient practice of vaginal steaming, often known as Yoni Steaming.
Slowly, slowly we are getting to a point where speaking about our 'lady-parts' isn't such a taboo subject. I mean half of the worlds population is lucky enough to have a vagina, and surely it should be something that can openly be spoken about with ease and respect.
The concept of Yoni steaming has been around for centuries and has been known to reduce the uncomfortable feelings often experienced during menstruation and help regulate your cycle, can heal common infections like thrush (our enemy that all too often rears its ugly head when we wearing swimwear and wetsuits all of the time...), detoxify your body and give yourself a moment of relaxation and meditation.
If for no other reason, you should steam your vagina because it feels damn good! We are all entitled to pleasure, and this is one of the most beautiful ways to do so. The herbs can heal different conditions. The gentle warmth and moisture of a Yoni steam increases circulation to your vulva, vagina and pelvic floor, making you feel super relaxed, blissful and grounded... As it turns out, this is the same thing that happens when you are aroused. The result? Steaming your vagina feels delightful… and can even bring you deeper orgasms! As women living in the modern world, we are invited to step into and embrace our sensuality, pleasure and enjoyment of our beautiful and powerful female bodies.
A Yoni steam happens, usually, in the comfort of your own home. It is simple and accessible for anyone, as it all it involves is the placement of a pot of hot water and aromatic herbs (if you know what safe herb-mix to use) under a seat with a hole in it sitting on top with spread legs, or a more simple “back-to-basics”: kneeling or squatting over a pot protected by a towel. While you are sitting over the steam it will gently embrace and soften your pelvic floor, vagina and vulva.

To steam with herbs is the most effective way to go but can also be the most uncertain one of you do not know how to work with your uniqueness and imbalances (dryness, infections, short cycles etc). How to YONI STEAM at home:
Boil 2 litres of water with 3 table spoons of salt and 2 table spoons vinegar and the herbs that are best suited to you in a medium size pot. Once the water has come to boil, take it off the heat and let it cool a temperate that you can test on the inside of you arm. Kneel over the pot and use a robe, cloak or towel around you so it covers you all the way down to the floor when kneeling. Sit/kneel for 10-12 minutes. Drink water and rest for 10 minutes. Enjoy the deep relaxation. The steam will become deeper and more healing. We recommend setting the scene with some candles and aromas that make you feel safe and calm. Whilst steaming take the time to try a simple meditation, even if it is just returning to your breath.
