Meet our Muse: Luen
At Atmosea, we’re passionate about celebrating individuals who embrace inspiring, simple, and healthy lifestyles by doing what they LOVE. When we first heard about Luen hosting a magical garden dance party, we were instantly intrigued. A musician turned flower farmer, Luen’s story is as vibrant and unique as the blooms she cultivates.
We couldn’t resist the opportunity to learn more, so we visited her enchanting farm plot, nestled amidst regenerated rainforest in the lush hinterland of the Northern Rivers. Here’s what we discovered about Luen’s journey, her connection to the land, and the joy she finds in her dual passions for music and flowers.

Who is Luen? What inspired your transition from DJing to flower farming?
I was teaching DJing to hundreds of women and non binary people and came to this conclusion that it was kind of hard on the nervous system and as you move upwards in the scene you can get disconnected and lonely. At least this is how I was feeling. I was desperately seeking a grounding, connected life which I found when volunteering on a permaculture farm in Colombia. I never looked back.
What’s a typical day like for you on the farm?
Today I started with harvesting, I had an intern and one employee with me so I delegated some farm work to them and got to work harvesting dahlias which need to be picked early in the morning before it gets too hot. After that we trellised dahlias as a group, winding a big reel of metal mesh horizontally down a line of star pickets. We spent a few hours weeding and mulching which included about 15 wheelbarrows of mulch each. In the middle of this session Charlie ran a short Qui - Gong session to loosen our shoulders up and we had a dip in the creek - it was very hot! At the end we processed the flowers from this morning (stripping stems and grading) and right now I’m on my way to deliver the flowers to a florist. I’ll also do a little bit of admin/ invoicing and paying bill$$$!

How do music and flower farming connect for you? Are there any similarities in the creative process?
I think both include finding your community and your niche and being headstrong on what you will and won’t do. Curating your palate whether musically or in the case of flowers - textures and colours.
How has your relationship with nature changed since growing flowers? Have you noticed a change in yourself?
I feel calmer and now I know the seasons when I never used to. I feel like I’m in touch with the moon, my period and what I eat too.

What’s the best advice your flowers have taught you about life?
Be in the present moment, learn from the past and always have something to look forward to.
If you could invite any three people (past or present) to a garden party, who would they be?
Elizabeth Gilbert, Grimes, Erin Benzakein! What’s the most rewarding part of working with flowers? Seeing people faces light up when you pass them over!
Can you share a playlist for my plants?
Yes!
